Jazz Kittens includes singing, movement, instruments, and storytelling with Sherry Luchette, author of The Flying Jazz Kittens. She introduces students to swing time, blues form, and great jazz music from all eras.
Age 5 – 8. No prior experience required.
July 10 – 14
Monday – Friday: 5:30 – 6:30 pm

Tuition: $130
Join Dr. Yuri Inoo’s rhythmic jam! Wake up your inner desire to bang and groove with friends. Students learn to improve time, rhythm, and ensemble-playing skills while drumming on buckets of all sizes. No prior drum experience required. Age 5 – 10.


Camps & Workshops

For advanced students, PCM’s Chamber Music Intensive is led by Chamber Music Department Chair, Aimée Kreston, and joined by other nationally recognized coaches and teachers. The week includes daily coachings, rehearsals, guest artist recitals, master classes, lectures, and more.

Monday – Friday: 2:00 – 6:00 pm

Tuition: $800
This two-week course develops foundations of jazz improvisation, theory, and history. Students enrolled in the workshop study with some of L.A.’s great jazz teachers, gain a comprehensive knowledge of jazz traditions, participate in daily master classes, learn to play pieces by jazz masters, and perform in an end-of-workshop concert.
Age 12+. All instruments welcome, no previous jazz experience required.
July 24 – 28

String Ensemble is a chamber music experience under the PCM Suzuki department, aimed towards students whose intention is to build and develop the skills necessary to work in a high level string ensemble program.

July 31 – August 4

Instructor: Laura Stoutenborough, Micah Wright
Tuition: $360
PCM’s Clarinet Camp focuses on fundamentals, including breathing, embouchure, and articulation. Led by PCM faculty Laura Stoutenborough and Micah Wright, the camp features a master class with guest artist Burt Hara from the L.A. Philharmonic and covers reed-work, practice tools, and intonation. All students will play in a clarinet choir. Ages 12+.
Youth Ensembles

Students are placed in guitar duos, trios, or quartets based on skill level and preference. Groups receive 8, one-hour coaching sessions, a master class, and perform in a final concert.

July 5 – 26

Instructor: Danny Janklow
Tuition: $200
Students participate in jazz combos composed of rhythm sections (i.e. piano, guitar, drum set, and percussion) and various wind instruments. Students of all instruments may apply. Literature for each group may be an assortment of standard jazz repertoire as well as arrangements and original compositions.
Age 12+. At least two years of previous instrumental study required.
Youth Theory Courses
June 13 – August 22

Music Theory Prep is for young students who are just starting lessons and not yet proficient at reading music. Topics include: treble and bass clefs, time signatures, rhythm, notation, and an introduction to famous composers. Age 9+.

This course is designed for students who have taken theory at PCM. It reviews concepts learned in previous classes to prepare students for the fall. This class is for students who have completed Theory Prep through Level 2.

Intergenerational Classes
June 24 – August 12
Saturdays: 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Tuition: $200
Family Ukulele provides a multigenerational space to come together and learn the ukulele. Students learn basic chords and rhythms, 5 strumming patterns, simple songs and even some novice improvisational skills that can lead to your own jam sessions at home!
Adult and youth ages 7+. Students must bring their own Ukulele.


Adult Ensembles
June 10 – August 12

Students learn to play jazz and blues standards in an ensemble setting. Through guided listening, students learn about melody, arrangements, chords, scales, and jazz improvisation.

Tuition: $300
This is a performance-oriented ensemble for adult amateurs. The ensemble studies and performs original and arranged works for guitar orchestra, with two to four instruments per part, and is led by a conductor. Admittance is by audition.

Students acquire ensemble chops while learning just enough about music theory, history, ear training, and healthy practice habits to support their development as a whole musician.

Upper Strings Instructor: Erika Walczak
Tuition: $300
For adults new to cello/bass (lower strings) or violin/viola (upper strings), this class focuses on fundamentals: tone production, intonation, reading and playing in an ensemble setting.
