Shred, the first program of this year’s Wicked Goat series, is all about dazzling, daredevil displays of virtuosity and speed.
Inspired by the incredible wizardry of virtuoso playing in many different styles and genres, and the resulting energy that that kind of music instills, the fire-powered program will feature various instrumental combos including piano duo, solo flute, flute/sax/piano trio, piano/cello duo, and electric guitar, culminating in Andrew Norman’s Gran Turismo, a racing-inspired work for eight violins.
______
Shred features PCM faculty pianists Nic Gerpe, Katelyn Vahala and Kathryn Eames and violinists Aimée Kreston and Elizabeth Hedman, as well as PCM chamber music alums Andrés Englemann and Marena Miki. They’ll be joined by some of LA’s most stellar musicians, including Timothy Loo (cello), Alyssa Park and Shalini Vijayan (violins) of the Lyris Quartet; Sarah Thornblade and Sara Parkins of the Eclipse Quartet; flautist Sarah Wass and saxophonist Jessica Maxfield, and special guest composer and guitarist Alexander Elliott Miller.
