A New Season for AVOLA
Sarah Reynolds, Artes Vocales Member
It’s hard to believe how quickly this summer has passed—that when my AVOLA colleagues and I parted after last spring’s concert and wished each other “a good break,” we would blink and already be back to work. But it is work that brings us joy, so we forgive time racing by.
Artes Vocales (AVOLA) is an ensemble that we all take pride in being part of. You can see this in the little things like consistent attendance, efficient rehearsals that start on time, and great concert turn-out. The “joy” factor, however, comes from something much bigger. It is truly a special thing for a group of people diverse in career, background, age, and training to come together each week in the interest of becoming better singers and musicians, and to sing with healthy technique and nuanced artistry. All contributions are valued, for “a rising tide floats all boats.”
Our 2015/16 season highlight will be preparation and performance of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. We will also present a Valentine’s Day, love-themed concert in February featuring the works of Palestrina, Purcell, Barber, Sato, and others. This promises to be another rigorous year and we look forward to sharing the reward with each other and our audiences.
AVOLA rehearsals begin Monday, Sep. 14th at 7:30pm in Barrett Hall. We are still welcoming new members. To schedule an audition please sign-up here: https://pasadenaconservatory.bringit.bz/public/937724
