Program:
Sounds Genius: Franck Sonata in A Major for Violin and Piano
“Sounds Genius” (formerly Masterpiece Discovery) is perfectly summed up by Salastina’s new motto “To know great music is to love great music”. It’s our trademark concert format. It’s not a lecture or dry analysis. We share how musical works of human genius throw open the doors of our hearts and connect us to the beauty of life and human potential.
For Salastina’s inaugural performance in stunning and intimate Barrett Hall, Kevin dives into the moody and sensuous Franck Violin Sonata with award-winning pianist Steven Vanhauwaert. KUSC’s Brian Lauritzen, our Resident Host, will explore what makes this one of the most beloved works of the Romantic era.
Artists:
Kevin Kumar, co-director and violin
Steven Vanhauwaert, piano
Brian Lauritzen, resident host
about Kevin: “…in addition to making an utterly beautiful sound, he is a born leader” (Music-Web International)
about Steven: “…impressive clarity, sense of structure and monster technique.” (Los Angeles Times)
about Brian: “…laid-back evangelist of the classical radio world” (Los Angeles Times)
