Originally from Australia, Rowena Hammill came to the U.S. to study with Raya Garbousova and Janos Starker (to whom she was assistant at Indiana University.) In 1990 she took a professorship at California State University, Northridge and joined the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, where she was Assistant Principal for many years. During her time in Los Angeles she was a member of the Primavera Trio and became Associate Principal Cello of the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, a position she still holds. Rowena has participated in many festivals, including the Bach Aria Festival, New Hampshire Music Festival, Oregon Bach Festival, Carmel Bach Festival and the Methow Chamber Music Festival. She now lives in the Seattle area where she performs with Trio Pardalote and co-curates concerts for Vashon Chamber Music and the Club Shostakovich series. In 2009 she was guest Principal Cello for the Seattle Opera Ring Cycle and in 2011 joined the first ever Australian World Orchestra.
