About Carl Matthes
Carl Matthes has performed as a soloist with orchestras in Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, the Seattle Center Coliseum, and the San Francisco Opera House. He gave the London debut of the Passacaglia by Walter Piston, the American debut of the Piano Concerto by Joseph Wagner, the West Coast premiers of New Pictures at an Exhibition by Seymour Bernstein, Fireside by Eve Beglarian and Raw Silk (A Rag) by Nurit Tilles.
He was a candidate for a Rockefeller Foundation grant to record all of the piano music of Aaron Copland and has appeared on three occasions at the State Convention of MTAC as performer of and lecturer on contemporary American music.
He was Executive Director of the Southwestern Youth Music Festival for 29 years and General Chair of the Southern California Junior Bach Festival for 9 years.
