PCM and the Fine Arts Club of Pasadena are proud to announce Keilani Bolhuis as the recipient of the 2023-2024 Roman Andrew Borek Endowed Scholarship. Keilani, age 17, has been a PCM student since 2012 and currently studies classical violin with Elizabeth Hedman, jazz piano with Amy Rowe, jazz violin with Megan Shung, and participates in Jazz Combo with Danny Janklow.

PCM is excited to present its first celebration of Día de los Muertos on Thursday, November 2, with its intergenerational ensemble Mariachi Pasadena! taking center stage.

Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday celebrated on November 1st and 2nd each year. Its roots can be traced back to the indigenous peoples of Mexico, particularly the Aztecs, who believed in the cyclical nature of life and death and that death was not the end, but a part of a continuous journey. When the Spanish colonizers invaded Mexico, they syncretized these indigenous beliefs with Catholicism, resulting in the modern-day Día de los Muertos.

Over the holidays, PCM students participated in seven of Pasadena Playhouse’s Holiday Spectacular shows. The brand-new variety show was developed by Tony nominee Sam Pinkleton and Randy Blair and included holiday classics with hilariously hummable harmonies, topsy-turvy choreo, a light dusting of improv, and more.
