Sherry Luchette

Sherry Luchette is a bassist and teacher and has studied and performed with greats including the late Joe Harnell, Tamir Hendelman, and John Clayton. She teaches jazz bass and Young Musicians classes at PCM and is the author of two jazz education book/CD sets called The Flying Jazz Kittens. Ms. Luchette has led numerous outreach concerts for children titled “Jazz Cats,” featured at UCLA’s Design for Sharing Program and at The Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.

She completed her bachelor’s in music education, jazz and bass studies, at the Dana School of Music, at Youngstown State University, Ohio. Ms Luchette received her master’s degree in bass performance from Cleveland State University in 1999.

After college, Ms. Luchette performed both acoustic and electric bass on a cruise line for four months touring the Caribbean. She returned to Cleveland and began performing with the Fat Tuesday Big Band led by saxophonist Ernie Krivda. The band performed with jazz artists Oleta Adams, Ernie Andrews, Davis Sanborn, Louie Bellson, and Terry Gibbs, and recorded two albums. Ms. Luchette recorded with a classical chamber ensemble for the album Focus on Stan Getz: Live at Severance Hall, featuring Ernie Krivda, Rufus Reid, and Adam Nussbaum. She joined the faculty of the Pasadena Conservatory in 2012.
