Kevin Truong is a freelance trombonist and music educator located in Southern California. He recently completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Trombone Performance at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, where he also completed his Master of Music degree in Trombone Performance. At USC, he was twice awarded the Robert Marsteller Endowed Memorial Award for Outstanding Brass Musician. Kevin was Trombone Teaching Assistant during his time at USC, and was also twice named Honorable Mention in USC Thornton’s Winds and Percussion Concerto Competition. Kevin completed his Bachelor of Music in Music Performance at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Kevin’s primary trombone teachers include Lori Stuntz, James Miller, and Terry Cravens, along with influential teachers, Brian Hecht and John Van Houten.

Kevin has performed with Pacific Symphony, Music Academy of the West, New West Symphony, Downey Symphony, Culver City Symphony, Bakersfield Symphony, Peninsula Symphony, and American Youth Symphony. He was also the bass trombone fellow at Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra  2024–2026, and was the bass trombone fellow in the 2024 Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Brass Institute as part of the Orchestral Training Fellowship Program.

He has worked with popular artists such as Zedd and Bruno Mars. He was also involved in Drum Corps International, marching Euphonium at Pacific Crest in 2015 and 2016, receiving the Brass Outstanding Performer award in 2016. He then aged out of Drum Corps in 2018 by marching baritone with the Santa Clara Vanguard, where the group won the Drum Corps International World Championships.

Kevin is on faculty as trombone instructor and chair of the Winds, Brass, and Percussion department at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music. An active educator in the greater Los Angeles area, he is also head of the brass program and low brass instructor at Chino Hills High School and Trombone Teaching Artist for Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (YOLA) at Torres.
