AVoLA | Requiem Reflections: Singing Our Deaths, Singing Our Lives
First Congregational Church of Los Angeles
540 South Commonwealth Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90020
AVoLA breaks new ground in a concert framed by the genius of Mozart’s Requiem. With song, speech, and imagery from around the world, this passionate program features sublime cultural and religious traditions that honor life by reflecting on the unifying experience of death.
This mostly musical mosaic weaves together various versions of requiems – the most intimate farewells and sublime remembrances— to consider how the universal contemplation of death seeks to give meaning to life.
Through the orchestral revelations of Mozart, interwoven with secular poetry, religious meditations, and ethnic folklore, AVoLA’s Requiem Reflections unifies and uplifts with moving insights into what it means to rest in peace and honor life, revealing the value of requiems the world over.
