One Great City Duo
Alexandra Iranfar, guitar and soprano
Timothy Sherren, guitar
Combining excellent arrangement, adventurous repertoire, and the bonus of an accomplished soprano, One Great City Duo brings a truly imaginative approach to their programming. The San Francisco Examiner acclaims One Great City Duo as an “innovative new duo… One Great City brings a journey of discovery to every recital they prepare.” One Great City Duo crystalized in 2011, and immediately began building a repertoire unique to them, combining Alexandra’s abilities both as a guitarist and a soprano with their love and dedication to chamber music. One Great City Duo recently released their debut album, titled “Excursions,” produced by their mentor Sérgio Assad at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California.
Committed to the development of new repertoire, One Great City Duo is
collaborating with San Francisco’s Guerrilla Composers Guild, culminating in new works written for the duo by Nick Benavides, Emma Logan, and Michael Kropf. Other recent collaborations include award winning young composers Eric Choate and Shahab Paranj. This October, One Great City Duo gave the world premiere of Variations on a Lullaby (2016), written by Grammy Award winning composer Sérgio Assad, and dedicated to the duo.
One Great City Duo plays a pair of matching guitars by Bay Area luthier Glenn Canin.
One Great City Duo is a fiscally-sponsored affiliate of San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the service of chamber music in California. They are recipients of SFFCM’s 2016 Musical Grant Program.
