Xiaobo Li
Xiaobo Li is a renowned erhu performer, educator, and composer, holding a Master’s degree in Erhu Performance. He is an outstanding figure in Chinese traditional music and a registered professional musician with the American Federation of Musicians (AFM).
Mr. Li began studying the erhu at an early age and later pursued concurrent training in yangqin performance and composition. He graduated with honors from the Sichuan Conservatory of Music. Over the years, he has remained highly active on both domestic and international stages, earning gold medals in numerous national and international Chinese music competitions. In 2007, he won the Gold Award at the Sixth China Golden Bell Awards Erhu Competition, one of the most prestigious and authoritative music competitions in China, firmly establishing his reputation in the professional field.
As a featured and contracted performer for Hollywood Chinese-language film productions, Mr. Li has contributed erhu recordings to numerous influential film soundtracks, including Just Another Pandora’s Box, the Detective Chinatown series, Little Door Gods, and Shaolin: The Legend of Duobao. In 2024, he was once again invited to participate as a Chinese instrumental soloist in Jackie Chan’s film A Legend and Detective Chinatown 1900, directed by Chen Sicheng and starring Wang Baoqiang. Both films achieved strong box office success.
Beyond film scoring, Mr. Li has also made significant contributions in the fields of opera and orchestral performance. He currently serves as a Chinese instrumentalist with LA Opera, and previously held the position of Music Director and Conductor of the Southern California Chinese National Orchestra. He is presently the Vice President of the Hawaii Musicians Association and Vice Chairman of the Music Education Society of the Macau-China International Arts Federation, while also serving as Principal Erhu Performer of the Southern California Chinese National Orchestra. In addition, he has released a solo erhu album, Eastern Magic Bow, which has received widespread acclaim from both professionals and audiences.
In 2023, Mr. Li was honored with the Global Outstanding Chinese Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his long-standing dedication to the preservation, innovation, and global promotion of Chinese traditional music.
Mr. Li’s musical journey represents a powerful fusion of tradition and contemporary spirit. Through the expressive and time-honored voice of the erhu, he brings new resonance to ancient sounds, allowing Chinese traditional music to continue flourishing on the world stage.
