Susan She

Ms. Susan She is a distinguished young Guzheng performer and educator, holding a Master’s degree in Guzheng Performance. She is a contracted soundtrack recording artist for Hollywood Chinese-language films and a registered professional musician with the American Federation of Musicians (AFM).

She began studying the guzheng at the age of five and graduated with honors from the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in China. She has received multiple gold awards in national and international traditional music competitions. In 2008, she was honored with the China–Singapore Friendship Contribution Award, jointly presented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and the Singapore Consulate General, and was later awarded the title of Outstanding Guzheng Educator by the Chinese National Orchestra Society.

Ms. She has contributed guzheng recordings to numerous Hollywood Chinese New Year and feature films, including Just Another Pandora’s Box, Detective Chinatown (series), Little Door Gods, and Feng Huang Wu Shuang. In 2022, she collaborated with LA Opera on the large-scale original opera On Gold Mountain, which was met with great success.

In 2024, she was invited once again to perform guzheng recordings for Jackie Chan’s new film A Legend, as well as Detective Chinatown 1900, directed by Chen Sicheng and starring Wang Baoqiang, both of which achieved strong box office results. She has also frequently collaborated with renowned Hollywood Chinese composer Nathan Wang, a three-time Emmy Award–winning composer and one of the most respected Chinese American film and television music composers in Hollywood, on theatrical and operatic productions including Shanghai, Shanghai, LA 1871, and the recently released new opera Golden Wish, all of which received enthusiastic audience acclaim.

In 2023, Ms. She was invited to perform the guzheng solo Fishermen’s Song at Dusk with the Omaha Symphony Orchestra, earning high praise from audiences.
Known for her refined, expressive, and elegant playing style, Ms. Susan She has been described by audiences as “watching a ballet performed at one’s fingertips”—the highest compliment to her artistry.
