OLD TIME AMERICANA
Concert & Guided Jam
The jam session opens with a lively performance by Natalie Brejcha, Tom Moose, and The Scotti Old Time Family String Band; followed by an interactive jam with audience members.
The event is free and open to the public. Bring friends, family, children, any instrument you want to play (No fiddle? No problem. Bring spoons!), snacks, water, sunhats, or just your voice!
Possible jam tunes include: Boil Em Cabbage, Shortnin Bread, Cluck Old Hen, Dry & Dusty, Pasadena Girls, and many more! (Handouts will be provided.)
The Old-Time Family String Band:
Originating from the deep dark hollers just north of Los Angeles, California, our family band started as a hobby. We began our band activities to help our kids learn the violin, make practice a habit, maintain their playing skills, and stay motivated. As our kids grow, our band continues to grow with them.
The Band keeps busy with busking at nearby farmers markets on the weekends, competing in annual folk music festivals, attending local music meetup jams and playing open mic nights around the Los Angeles area.
Sagan (age 12) leads the band with traditional Appalachian fiddle tunes some dating as far back as the civil war era.
Seeger (age 7) plays fiddle, harmonica and spoons.
The essential job of rhythm guitar is handled by Mama, and Papa brings up the rear with his mountain clawhammer banjo technique.
