Kevin Truong
Kevin Truong is a freelance trombonist and music educator located in Southern California. He is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Trombone Performance at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, where he also completed his Master of Music degree in Trombone Performance. At USC, he was twice awarded the Robert Marsteller Endowed Memorial Award for Outstanding Brass Musician. Kevin completed his Bachelor of Music in Music Performance at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Kevin’s primary trombone teachers include Lori Stuntz, James Miller, Terry Cravens. Additionally, he studied with Brian Hecht and Eden Garza. He has also studied orchestration with Juan Pablo Contreras.
Kevin most recently performed at the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra as the bass trombone fellow in the summer of 2024. He has also performed at Music Academy of the West, American Youth Symphony, Downey Symphony, Bakersfield Symphony, and Peninsula Symphony. Kevin was the bass trombone fellow in the 2024 Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Brass Institute as part of the Orchestral Training Fellowship Program. He has also worked with popular artists such as Zedd and Bruno Mars. His marching arts experience includes marching Euphonium at Pacific Crest in 2015 and 2016, receiving the Brass Outstanding Performer award in 2016. Kevin then aged out of Drum Corps in 2018 with the Santa Clara Vanguard. That summer, the corps won the Drum Corps International World Championships. Kevin was named winner of the Cal Poly Pomona Philharmonic Orchestra’s Concerto Competition in 2019 and performed as a soloist with the ensemble. He was also named Honorable Mention in USC Thornton’s Winds and Percussion Concerto Competition in 2022.
Kevin is an active marching arts educator, his teaching experience includes Los Altos High School, and South Pasadena High School. Currently, he is a brass instructor and brass head at Chino Hills High School. He teaches an active brass studio in the greater Los Angeles area.
