The third concert in our series Songs About Place, this program will explore geographic representations in traditional and contemporary Armenian music. Pianist Vatché Mankerian will perform music from composers known as the Armenian Mighty Handful, who worked and produced music in the capital inspired by the ancient traditions of Armenian musical culture as well as the city’s metropolitan vibe and 20th century sounds and styles. As a child, vocalist Mariné Ter-Kazaryan toured the cities of Armenia with Gevork Armenyan, Edward Mirzoyan, and Robert Petrosyan, premiering their songs for children. She will perform works by these composers, as well as pieces by Romanos Melikyan and Ashot Satyan, that portray the Armenian countryside and the breathtaking seasons in her native country.
