Jackfruit Quartet Premiere

April 16, 7:30 pm

The Jackfruit Quartet is a string quartet composed of faculty members of the Pasadena Conservatory of Music (PCM). Though we have collaborated and worked together many times before in-person, this is the first time (for any PCM faculty group!) to perform virtually and in synchronicity using “JackTrip” low-latency technology. The quartet was formed solely for the purpose of experimenting with this new and exciting device. We hope to inspire fellow musicians to explore low-latency technology during these unusual times and above all, we will strive to bring joy to our community through our love of ensemble music.

Musical Interludes | The Vexations

A title borrowed from a work by the enigmatic composer Erik Satie, The Vexations offers a glimpse of his life told through the stories of those closest to him. From Satie’s early childhood to his emergence among the Parisian avant-garde in Belle Époque France, this novel expands beyond biography to explore and revel in the intimate human connections that make up a life.

PCM faculty and friends explore works by Erik Satie, his contemporaries, and those most influenced by his compositional philosophies.

Cantare: Music Is Where the Heart Is

This concert features music from Mendelssohn, Bach, and Telemann as well as compositions from modern composers that we hope will reflect our desire to continue making music no matter our circumstances. Our ensemble members and audiovisual team have spent countless hours practicing, recording, filming, lighting, learning, and editing in preparation for this performance. The strength of our choral community and the power and passion for music-making has kept us going this season. Even though we are desperate for the days where we can be together in person again, my colleagues and I are so very grateful for the opportunity to make music safely from home.

Bach Unaccompanied

This concert features faculty members from the Strings and Guitar Departments performing unaccompanied pieces by J.S. Bach. The program was recorded in Barrett Hall.
