Here are some fun facts about Erick!

What is your favorite piece, performer, or composer for your instrument:
EJ: Gustav Mahler, Symphony #2. Favorite performer (loaded question…too many to name) I’ll say Empire Brass Quintet

What is your favorite musical word:
EJ: I’m a trumpet player, 8va optional… (not an option, it’s a challenge!!)

What is something about you that most people don’t know:
EJ: I love reading/studying history

What is your favorite concert you’ve given or attended:
EJ: Favorite concert was in January 2019 with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. My debut as a newly appointed member performing Beethoven Symphony #5. This was special because I performed with my new colleagues most importantly David Washburn (principal trumpet of LACO) who was my first trumpet teacher. Oh fun fact, my first rehearsal ever with LACO was on my birthday.

What do you like most about teaching:
EJ: I love everything about teaching. Figuring out ways of making challenging times playing wise with students fun. Watching students smile when they have breakthroughs in their musical journey. Experiencing students become more confident, artistic and passionate about music.

Teaching makes me a better performer. I find myself telling students to do something only to realize, wait, I should try this too!
