Musical Interludes | The Piano Shop on the Left Bank

This Musical Interlude is inspired by ‘The Piano Shop on the Left Bank,’ by Thad Carhart, an American living in Paris. Thad discovers a unique piano atelier on the Left Bank that sells refurbished pianos. Over time he befriends the reserved and quirky owner, as well as many locals with a passion for the piano. Carhart discovers it is not only the people who have fascinating and varied personalities, but also the pianos themselves.

A Weekend with Wu Man

For those unfamiliar, Wu Man is the world’s premier pipa virtuoso and leading ambassador of Chinese music. She is also a founding member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble and a featured artist in the documentary The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and The Silk Road Ensemble.

Musicians on stage

Click here to watch Wu Man perform in a standing room only concert in our auditorium with PCM guitar and jazz students performing Chinese and American folk songs for guitar orchestra and pipa, as well as a Korean folk song for jazz combo and pipa, and Duke Ellington’s Far East suite arranged for jazz orchestra and pipa.

Café Luar Video Premiere:

October 23, 6:30 pm

Click the video below to set a reminder or come back on Friday, October 23 to watch live!

Newly formed accordion/violin duo Café Luar will enchant and mesmerize with a selection of waltzes, tangos and jazz standards evoking the simple, carefree entertainment of more innocent times. A few examples are La Cumparasita, It’s Only a Paper Moon, Corazon de Oro and Over the Rainbow. Our name Café Luar is inspired by the shimmering essence of the moon’s light and its ability to comfort and inspire. These are difficult and confusing times in which we live. We believe music should bring hope, peace and joy to its listeners.
