About Andrew Park

Born in Korea and raised in a musical family, Andrew Park gave his first public performance at age five and won numerous major competitions in Korea, including the Korea Times Competition and the Jeon-Buk State Music and the Arts Competition. In 1993, he won first prize at the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition, formally known as Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition in Palm Desert, California. Park also participated and performed in the Boston University Summer Festival, Tanglewood Music Festival, and Aspen Music Festival. Currently, Park actively performs as a solo pianist and a chamber musician nationally and internationally, traveling with his group, the Park Trio. He has performed with groups such as the OMC Orchestra, ICO Orchestra, and Dosan Philharmonic Orchestra.

Park studied piano with Nelms McKelvain at the Idyllwild Arts Academy and completed his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees at the University of Southern California with world renowned pianist, John Perry. After serving the teaching position at the Bethesda Christian University in Anaheim, California for several years, he currently serves as chairman of Keyboard department at Chong Shin University in Los Angeles in addition to teaching at Azusa Pacific. During the summer season, he serves on the faculty at the Southern California Music Institute, Montecito International Music Festival, ASIA International Piano Academy and Festival in Korea, and Idyllwild Summer Program.

As a conductor, Park serves as the music director at the New Life Vision Church, conductor of the Montecito International Music Festival Youth Orchestra, CTS Chamber Group, and the Private Eye Youth Chamber Orchestra. He has recorded “The Carnival of the Animals” by Saint-Saens with the Idyllwild Chamber Orchestra for the children of the world CD, priere, with the Park Trio. Additionally, Park is an active private studio teacher in Fullerton, and his students have won the prizes from numerous competitions throughout the country. He is a chairperson of MTNA Annual Evaluation and Sonata/Sonatina competition, and a judge of SYMF and MTAC competitions. He previously taught piano at the Idyllwild Arts Academy, Los Angeles City College, and USC Thornton School of Music.
