This year’s Mansions & Music series explores three notable salonnières of the 19th and 20th centuries, beginning with Alma Mahler on October 25. Alma Mahler maintained a social circle that included numerous composers of her day: Gustav Mahler (also her first husband), Alexander von Zemlinsky, Alban Berg, and Erich Wolfgang Korngold. The Mahler salonwill feature songs by Alma Mahler herself, as well as Songs of a Wayfarer by G. Mahler,”Pierrot’s Tanzlied” from Die Tote Stadt by Korngold, songs from Walzer-Gesänge, Op. 6 by Zemlinsky, and songs from Seven Early Songs by Berg.

Join the artists on Thursday, October 22 at 7 p.m. for the Mansions Prelude, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at pieces on the concert program.

SETTING

Renowned architects Marston, Van Pelt and Maybury originally named this Italianate estate Casa Contenta”the happy home.” Built in 1922 and restored in 2015, this stately residence is rich in architectural detail and character and exudes Mediterranean charm. The home features a grand entry hall with boxed beamed high ceilings, arched French doors and large windows that frame garden vistas, and a loggia adjoining a sprawling lawn. It is a serene setting for a Sunday afternoon concert and reception. The property is owned by Mr. Spencer Tien.
