To kick off the second season of our Songs About Place series, faculty member and composer Matthew Brown will present an original modern tone poem for chamber ensemble, inspired both by the composer’s personal experiences during a trip to the Mount Wilson Observatory in 2013 and more universal, symbolic themes educed from the place itself, its historical significance, and its natural surroundings. The work will debut at Carnegie Observatories in conjunction with their presentation on the history of astronomy in Pasadena for the 2014 AxS Festival
