WINDS & BRASS
2012 / 2013 Calendar
Fall Session: September 4 - December 2
Winter Session: December 3 - March 10
Spring Session: March 11 - June 10
The Winds & Brass Department prepares students to achieve technical proficiency (tone production, intonation, articulation and rhythm) on their instruments. Through the application of a sequential curriculum, students learn to express themselves musically, develop musical responsibility and acquire the skills necessary to successfully participate in ensembles. In general, the Conservatory recommends students begin studying winds and brass at age 9 or later.

Individual Instruction
Individual lessons are available in 30, 45 or 60 minutes lengths, depending on student need and teacher recommendation. Individual lessons begin September 6th for Fall Quarter.
Juries
Towards the conclusion of each school year, all non-adult students enrolled in private instrumental study participate in a juried performance evaluation. This jury offers students the opportunity to demonstrate their progress over the past year, and to receive feedback from a faculty panel. Departmental juries take place over the course of one week, and are scheduled in lieu of a lesson.
Recitals
The Winds & Brass Department also holds departmental solo recitals twice yearly. Throughout the school year, the Conservatory also regularly hosts student recitals. Students are recommended for these performances by their individual instructors. All non-adult students are expected to perform during the school year.
Summer Jazz Camp
The two-week summer jazz camp is an opportunity for seventh to twelfth grade students to study jazz in an ensemble setting. The curriculum is based on jazz standards and improvisation. All instruments are welcomed.
Annual Tuition:
30 minute lessons: $1,440
45 minute lessons: $2,160
60 minute lessons: $2,700
